Common in the mountains of the Southwest at elevations from 4000 to 10000 feet, this perennial blooms all summer with red tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds. The stems have slender gray-green leaves up to 5 inches long. Plant in full sun to part shade and provide excellent drainage. It can reseed in the landscape.
