Mangave ‘Pineapple Express’ P.P.#28613

Accent/Succulent

Mangaves are new hybrid plants that are just starting to gain interest in the market for their hardiness, faster growth rate, and many unique forms. Mangaves are a cross of two different genera, Manfreda and Agave, to try and get a combination with the best of both parents. 'Pineapple Express' has a refined, spiky habit reminiscent of the top of a pineapple. Leaves are about an inch wide with a nice blue-green hue that gets covered with burgundy spots. Spotting will show best with more sun exposure, either full sun or afternoon sun. Plants will bloom after a few years and will send up tall spikes of lavender and white flowers much like an Agave. Flowering occurs in the late spring to early summer. Individual heads will die after flowering much like Agaves, but plants will offset at the same time to keep actively growing. A compact grower to about 1 to 1 1/2' tall does well in containers or in the ground.
