This interesting semi-deciduous shrub is from South Africa. The arching branches twist and turn downwards, and are lined with dense clusters of dark green leaves. Pale lilac flowers appears in late spring and early summer on separately sexed trees. Female plants produce small, round orange to red fruit that turn to black as they ripen. Fruit is edible but not palatable to humans. Birds, however, find them very tasty.
