This beautiful, petite agave has striking blue-gray leaves that terminate in a distinctive, often twisted, reddish spine. The leaf margins display pronounced swellings at the base of the teeth, giving the margins a ruffly appearance. The flower spike can be branched or unbranched, with light green flowers. Place in some shade in the low deserts, and provide some supplemental irrigation. This solitary agave is native to the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca at elevations from 4500 to 7500 feet.
