Acacia craspedocarpa

Leatherleaf Acacia

This evergreen, thornless shrub from Australia has round, thick, leathery gray-green leaf-like phyllodes. This erect, compact shrub grows slowly to 10 to15 feet tall and wide, and is reminiscent of a large box- wood. It may be grown as a large shrub or trained into an attractive small patio tree. The bright yellow catkin-like flowers appear spring through summer, followed by large flattened seedpods. It performs best in full sun and reflected heat, and needs good drainage. It is cold hardy to 20 F.
